About

ABOUT.

Hecho en Formosa (made in taiwan//beauty) was founded in 2013 by adoptive siblings Chad and Lauren Mascari. Legend has it that when Portuguese explorers came upon the island of Taiwan, they called it 'Ilha Formosa', meaning 'beautiful island'. All projects produced and curated by Hecho en Formosa are borne out of beauty, be it idea or aesthetic.

We provide personalized tailoring services and alterations, as well as project consultation. Due to our commitment to social justice, Hecho en Formosa strives to contribute toward sustainability by repurposing unique fabriques and clothing that is no longer a-la-mode , which is not yet an industry standard.

Our Production Chief, Lauren Mascari, (pronouns: she/they) first learned how to sew a pillow at about 10-years-old. Thanks to Grandma Rita who worked at Zita's Bridal Shop in Milwaukee, Dr. Mascari gained wisdom about apparel design and construction. Recently, Lauren realized that her birth family owned Jui Shan Dry Cleaning Co., Ltg. in Hofei County in Taiwan, so her alteration skills are literally in her blood!

Lauren values both ecological justice and functional utility, drawing inspiration from natural elements and cultural vibrance. When they are not creating, they enjoy running, biking, capoeira, spending time outside and with loved ones, eating donuts, and dreaming about slam dunks.

Chad Mascari, (he) our Chief of Operations, is not a talented artist by any means, except through the written word. He loves to write and tell stories. When he found out his sister was attempting to begin a company he wanted to support her and tell her story. Mr. Mascari directs marketing development and the business aspect of the company in order to foster on-going partnerships and attract guests.

Chad graduated from Creighton University in 2013 with a Bachelor’s Degree in History of International Relations. Currently, he is pursuing his Masters Degree in Computer Science and Cyber Security. Mr. Mascari also serves in the Army National guard.

When Chad is not working and studying, he enjoys cooking homemade noodles, adventuring, and exploring underwater as a certified scuba diver.
